MPA from Chakwal passes away
CHAKWAL: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) MPA Chaudhry Liaquat Ali Khan passed away on Monday.
“He was suffering from prostate cancer for the last one decade,” said Municipal Committee Chairman Chaudhry Sajjad Ahmed, who was a close aide to the MPA.
Mr Liaquat, who was also the district president of the PML-N, was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital on Monday where he died. Born on July 21, 1950, Mr Liaquat joined politics in 1983 when he was elected as a councillor.
He became an MPA in 1985 on the ticket of Islami Jamhoori Itehad.
He started his politics under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and remained with his party throughout his life.
From 1985 to 1999 he was elected as the MPA for five consecutive times.
In the general elections 2008 when the condition of graduation was imposed Mr Liaquat could not contest the election but his wife Iffat Liaquat won the seat.
In 2013, he was once again elected as an MPA and his wife became MNA on a reserved seat. Mr Liaquat is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
