LAHORE: The annual Raiwind congregation began here on Thursday amid prayers for the supremacy of Islam and solidarity and progress of Pakistan.

Hundreds of thousands of followers from home and abroad have already reached the venue in the town of Raiwind and more are pouring in. The Tableeghi proceedings started after Asr prayers.

Police and other law enforcement agencies have made elaborate security arrangements for the congregation where teams are made to preach Islam in Pakistan and abroad. The teams formed last year also present their reports.

Meanwhile, additional wardens have been deputed in Lahore and on the roads leading to the venue in Raiwind to regulate traffic.

During the four-day moot, Maulana Jamilur Rehman, Haji Abdul Wahab, Maulana Tariq Jamil, Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Bahawalpuri and Maulana Saad Kandhalvi would address the participants. The moot is scheduled to be concluded on Sunday.

Another session would be held later in the month.
