Maryam continues with her ‘anti-judiciary refrain’
LAHORE: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam on Tuesday appeared upset and frustrated at the country’s judicial system after Imran Khan got bail in different cases and the Supreme Court reserved verdict on his disqualification case.
She not only vented her anger on the judiciary but also declared Imran Khan a man of ‘coup-makers’.
“Imran Khan’s case is far more serious in terms of legal implications than Iqama joke. Nation now waiting to see the decision in his case,” Maryam said in a tweet.
Posting the screen grabs from the news clips that the apex court was not in a hurry to announce verdict (against Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareeen) on her twitter account, Maryam said: “There was a hurry in the case of Nawaz Sharif because to take decision against him (in Panama Papers case) new parameters of justice were framed. All standards of justice were for the Sharif family. There is no question from others. No one even asks the absconder (Imran Khan) where he had been for the last two years (in attack on PTV, Parliament and SSP Asmatullah Junejo cases).”
She further said: “That’s true. Nawaz Sharif by presenting himself for ruthless accountability knowing it was a farce has forced others to measure up.”
Maryam also bracketed Imran Khan with the military establishment saying: “He (Imran Khan) is a permanent employee of the coup-makers. Comes out and speaks as & when ordered by masters. Even his words are not his own.”
Maryam’s criticism of the judiciary has become a regular feature since the announcement of the Panama Papers case on July 28.
Maryam is also facing a contempt of court proceedings in the Lahore High Court for her ‘contemptuous remarks’ against judges. The next hearing of the case is fixed for Nov 21.Showing his party’s reaction to Maryam’s diatribe against Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said: “Maryam Nawaz is showing her arrogance and ignorance by targeting judges and Imran Khan. Calling Mr Khan a man of coup-makers shows her little knowledge of history. She must improve her reading habits to know who was the real coup maker.”
Talking to Dawn, Mr Chaudhry said there had been a stark difference between the Nawaz Sharif case and that of Imran Khan.
