Sahiwal division completes 1,700 schemes

SAHIWAL: Of 2,524 development schemes worth Rs5.2 billion for Sahiwal division, 1,729 have been completed, 524 are under process while for the remaining projects, tenders have been sought.

These schemes are part of the Prime Minister’s Sustainable Development Goal Programme.

This was said at a meeting of the divisional administration, where Planning and Development Board Chairman Jahanzeb Khan spoke through video link on Wednesday. The 1,729 schemes were completed in a phased programme with Rs3.4 billion.

The projects are being executed by the funds which the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif had promised during a visit to Chichawattni in 2017.

Development Director Habib Jilani Vaince said the package included schemes like the provision of clean drinking water and power supplies, and construction of sewerage lines and pavements.

The package includes 775, 525 and 429 development schemes for Sahiwal, Okara and Pakpattn districts and these schemes cost Rs1.1 billion, Rs1.440 billion and Rs797.9 million. respectively.

The second phase of development schemes would cost Rs1.764 billion and it would be accomplished before December. The commissioner directed the deputy commissioners of the three district to personally supervise the completion of development work.

​WIFE KILLER: A man allegedly first killed his former wife and later shot at and injured himself late on Tuesday in neighbourhood Tulyainwala. Eyewitnesses said Shahzad Masih broke into the house of Dilshad, where his former wife Saima Bibi was living with her brother.

He shot her dead and later using the same shotgun, he injured himself. Saima had recently divorced Shahzad for the lack of compatibility. Shahzad was not happy over divorce.

Rescuee 1122 shifted Shahzad to the Sahiwal District Headquarters Teaching Hospital in critical condition. The Ghala Mandi police registered a murder case against Sahazad on the complaint of Dilshad.
