Police to question Karachi-based ‘political personality’ in Saira murder case today

HYDERABAD: Police have called a Karachi-based political personality, among many others, to question them on Thursday as the mystery deepens about who murdered and burnt the body of PML-F women wing activist, Saira Naseer.

He said they would interview around 10 persons including this individual who had recently joined a political party after quitting another. “The suspect’s calls to Saira are for longer duration and frequent too,” said the source.

Others who were also called for interview included Mushtaq, Umair Awan, Rab Parto and one Mushtaq Memon, he said.

Police have collected blood samples of family members including Saira’s children and husband and taken footprints, which have been sent to Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences for chemical analysis.

Sources said that police had been questioning Saira’s family members in the wake of reports that she had domestic issues.

Saira was an extrovert who participated in politics, took part in tenders to win contracts and also dealt in cars’ sale and purchase, said a source.

Police have pinpointed a few phone numbers because of their frequent calls to Saira’s numbers. These calls have been made for longer duration and on numerous occasions. Geo-fencing of phone numbers is under way. “Some contact numbers are from outside Sindh,” said a source.

Investigators are also trying to obtain footages of closed-circuit television cameras installed near the crime scene. They have, however, cleared Saira’s second husband, Zaheer, son Fahad and daughters after interviewing them.

Hyderabad SSP said: “Nothing incriminating has been found as yet against Saira’s former husband and children at least at this point of time. For the time being I can’t make a definite statement as to the involvement of someone”.

The charred body of Saira Naseer was found in her own car on a link road during the night of Dec 6-7 in the jurisdiction of Husri police station. Her family had identified her with the help of her belongings.
