Slain Saira’s family not satisfied with probe

HYDERABAD: Family members of PML-F women wing activist Saira Naseer, whose charred body was found in her car on Dec 7, have complained that police have failed to make any headway in the murder case but they still suspect the family of involvement even though there is no evidence against them.

The family members who wished not to be named told Dawn on Sunday that police had not shared anything with them.

“We are still being looked at with suspicion in spite of the fact that police have retrieved call data record from cell phones of all family members,” said source close to the family.

The source pointed out that investigators had not yet spoken to the owner of the bungalow who was involved in a litigation with late Saira over her Defence residence. “Name of another man was also shared with police against whom Saira had lodged a complaint,” said the source.

“The family is facing character assassination by some sections of media primarily because police are not able to find the real suspects and share details of the investigation conducted so far,” said the source.

The investigators had so far interviewed a dozen people including a political activist from Karachi, who had recently travelled with Saira to a foreign country, but found nothing in their statements that might link them to the murder, said a police source.

They had not even found anything incriminating in the call data record of the family’s cell phones that might provide some clue or shed light on the case, conceded the police source.

According to him, the investigators were also trying to approach the people who had visited Defence phase-II between Dec 6 and 7.
