NAB to probe alleged embezzlement of Rs200m in Fata polio vaccination projects
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) decided on Thursday to initiate an inquiry into the alleged embezzlement of Rs200 million in funds allocated to polio vaccination projects in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
A meeting chaired by NAB KP Director General Farooq Naseer Awan decided to initiate the probe against officials of the Fata Health Directorate regarding "corruption and corrupt practices," a press release issued by NAB said.
A probe against police officers in Bannu was also among others approved in the meeting.
"It is alleged that the subjects have embezzled funds allocated for the Travelling Allowance and Daily Allowance (TA/DA) of police personnel," the statement said.
Fata, one of polio's most-affected regions in Pakistan, has recently experienced a fall in cases of the crippling disease.
