Rawalpindi, Islamabad bars hold polls
ISLAMABAD: The District Bar Association of Islamabad on Saturday elected Riasat Ali Azad as its president for one year.
About 1,800 lawyers from Rawalpindi polled their votes and elected office-bearers for the year 2018.
The capital’s district bar election results were announced by election board chairman Raja Shafqat Khan Abbasi.
Mr Azad, who secured 1,140 votes, defeated his opponent Sardar Arshad Mehmood Khan who got 649 votes.
The bar’s secretary slot was secured by Khurshid Ahmed Butt, who bagged 796 votes. His opponents, Pir Fida Hashmi and Ansar Kayani, received 611 and 424 votes, respectively.
Previously, Mr Azad held the post of secretary and had actively participated in the movement for the restoration of judges since 2007 to 2009.
As per the official results, Nosheen Gul Kharal defeated her opponent for the slot of vice president as she received 1,234 votes.
In Rawalpindi, Khurram Kayani became president of the District Bar Association of Rawalpindi by securing 1,030 votes, while his opponent Masood Shah managed 502 votes only.
The Rawalpindi district bar elected Raja Amir as its secretary with 773 votes against his opponent Junaid Khalid Chohan, who got 670 votes.
