Two cops among three injured in Chaman blast

QUETTA: Three people, among them two police personnel, were injured in a remote-controlled explosion in the border town of Chaman in Qila Abdullah district on Wednesday.

Official sources said that assailants planted an improvised explosive device (IED) near an electricity tower on Mall Road. The blast was so powerful that it rocked the entire town, which borders Afghanistan.

As a result, two policemen and another person were injured while passing the area. The explosion took place near Edhi centre but no volunteer was hurt.

Soon after the incident, personnel of police and Frontier Corps rushed to the site and shifted the injured to the district hospital.

The injured were identified as Allah Gul, Rozi Khan and Attaullah, and were said to be in a serious condition.

Officials of a bomb disposal squad said that the IED was detonated with a remote control.

“We have tightened security of the border town after the blast and launched a search operation to trace the elements involved,” said Javed Ghirsheem, District Police Officer of Chaman.

Further investigation was in progress.
