LAHORE: Fancied filly, Gujrat One, proved superiority in class against her six rivals while powering to an easy success to land the 1,000 Guineas of Pakistan Classic during the Lahore Winter Meeting here at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The Waqas Ahmad trained filly, ridden by jockey Aftab Choudhry, went four lengths clear by the line over Loving Memory to be reckoned among the contenders for the Pakistan Derby 2018 scheduled for the first Sunday of March.

Mighty Wings finished third, another five lengths back with Arnaaj completing the board.

The proud owner, Mohammad Qasim sent Gujrat One off to start as the 25 to 100 favourite and she obliged true to the trust reposed in her. The winner clocked one minute 37 4/5 seconds over the 1600-metre race for four-year-old Pakistani bred fillies known as the Fillies Derby.

Hammad Rasul, the general manager marketing of Royal Residentia (Pvt) Limited, gave away the cup to the winner.

Gujrat One denied Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud a hat-trick of victories as his filly Loving Memory earned the second spot, four lengths behind the winner. His fillies Tulsi and Shooting Star had won the coveted event in 2016 and 2017.

The main supporting event, the Anarkali Cup run over 1200 metres, was clinched by 40 to 100 favourite dark-bay filly Victim Of Love trained by Haji Abid Mahmood and piloted home by Aamir Pervez to register a comfortable five lengths win over chestnut filly Gole Ke Queen. Golden Guest seized third spot and Blushing Away fourth among the six runners.

The winner clocked one minute 11 4/5 seconds in the race meant for three-year-old Pakistani fillies, the first milestone in the career of three-year-old fillies.

It was an emotional day for owner Asad Mahmood when the daughter of Danish sire, Chapter One, Victim Of Love completed her hat-trick of triumphs to keep intact her invincibility at the course. He was presented the cup by the Jockey Club Of Pakistan-elect steward Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa.

The Nero Cup contested over 1300 metres was won by Fazeel Asif Jah’s dark-bay imported filly Lady Cavaier, ridden by Aamir Pervez and trained by A.B. Malik. The owner received the cup from LRC steward Fawwad Ahmad Cheema.

Lady Kaviar beat bay gelding Right To Dream, whose rider Aftab Choudhry rode his mount in a style to let Lady Kaviar win the race. Choudhry was seen using all tactics not to let his mount run on merit. Had he rode Right To Dream seriously and honestly he would have won the race.
