Landmines to be removed from S. Waziristan: GOC
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), Irfan Ahmad Malik, announced on Sunday that security forces would do their best to remove landmines from all areas of South Waziristan Agency.
Speaking at a joint jirga of members of security forces, political authorities and elders of the Mehsud tribe at the Chakmalai area, he said that security forces would make every possible effort to remove landmines from the tribal areas. On the occasion, the tribesmen were also briefed about the presence of the landmines in the area.
Political Agent of South Waziristan Ashfaq Ahmad Khan and local authorities also attended the jirga.
On the occasion, the political agent announced Rs500,000 compensation each for family members of those who lost their lives in the landmine blasts and Rs200,000 compensation for family members of each of the injured.
The acting GOC also announced on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, construction of a house for the family of Naqib Ullah Mehsud who was killed in a fake police encounter in Karachi.
He also announced free education for Naqib’s children.
