Ex-cricketer’s brother-in-law ‘kidnapped’

LAHORE: Former cricketer Saeed Anwar’s brother-in-law has allegedly been kidnapped from his Bedian Road residence.

According to sources, the incident occurred a week ago. However, Saeed Anwar’s sister Ms Shakeela Anwar approached the South Cantt police on Monday for the recovery of her husband Asad Munir.

In her application, she pleaded that unidentified people kidnapped her husband from his Bedian Road residence.

Police, quoting Ms Shakeela, said some armed men forced their entry into the house and took Munir with them.

However, a member of the family told this reporter that the matter had been reported to the local police the day Munir was kidnapped.

Requesting anonymity, he said, over two dozen armed men had arrived at Munir’s house to kidnap him.

Meanwhile, a police source said Munir was picked by law enforcement agencies for his alleged involvement in “anti-state” activities.

He said the raiding officials also seized a laptop and some other articles from the house and shifted Munir to an undisclosed place.

Sub-Inspector Habib Ullah of South Cantt police station said he had just got the assignment to probe into the matter.

He said the case would be lodged and that he was trying to contact the complainant, Ms Shakeela, to know the details of the “kidnap” incident.
