Zainab case

THE revelation by the father of Zainab that the killer was identified by the family of the deceased has adversely affected the credibility of Punjab police who are taking credit for the ‘successful’ investigation.

Zainab’s father also claimed that the CCTV footage was also provided to the police by the family. This is not the only example of distortion of facts by police officials.

Most often when a criminal is handed over to the police by a citizen, the FIR is twisted to show that the accused was arrested by patrolling police officials in the presence of ‘witnesses’.

This is done to make the case ‘stronger’ in the court. I was told this by a police officer when I handed over a thief to the police many years ago. There is a need to have a fresh look at our legal procedures.
