Justice Yawar Ali takes oath as CJ

LAHORE: Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali on Wednesday took oath as 46th chief justice of the Lahore High Court at a ceremony held at Governor House.

Governor Rafiq Rajwana administered oath to the new chief justice. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal, high court judges, provincial ministers, office bearers of the Pakistan Bar Council, Lahore High Court Bar Association and Lahore Bar Association, provincial and federal law officers attended the ceremony.

Later on arrival at the LHC, a guard of honour was presented to the chief justice by a smartly dressed police contingent. Judges and court officials welcomed and congratulated the chief justice for holding the office.

Chief Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali was elevated to the bench as additional judge of the high court on Feb 19, 2010. He will retire on Oct 22, 2018. Before elevation to the bench, he had served as deputy attorney general for Pakistan and the additional advocate general for Punjab.

Present strength of judges at the LHC is 49 against the sanctioned strength of 60.
