World’s smallest fidget spinner

Tokyo-based MinebeaMitsumi Inc. earned a Guinness World Record for the tiny .20-inch long spinning toy.

“We wanted to make a super high-quality one, which has ‘the smallest, the longest rotation and the smoothest’ features, we wanted to prove the precision of our bearing by creating a fidget spinner which spins the longest,” said project leader Shigeru None.

A team of eight people spent two months crafting the record-breaking fidget spinner. The company used its existing record-breaking product, the smallest commercially available steel ball bearing, which measures 1.499 millimetres.

The tiny fidget spinner weighs .00095 ounces, has a radius of .11 inches and is .06 inches thick with its button included and .02 without it.

The world’s largest fidget spinner, created by Tony Fisher of England, has a diameter of 11 feet.

Students use recycled materials to build can-crushing machine

A group of university students in Mexico used recycled materials to create a can-crushing machine to reduce waste.

The students at Panamerican University in Mexico said they used mostly recycled materials to build the small machine, which manipulates a piece of wood to crush cans one-by-one. The students said the machine was designed to reduce waste by compressing the discarded cans.

One of the students, Javier Rodrigz Bueno, shared a video of the machine in action on Twitter.
