Court moved for protection of Boxer

LAHORE: Father-in-law of ‘encounter specialist’ former police inspector Abid Boxer on Thursday approached the Lahore High Court for the protection of his son-in-law, who had been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a fraud case.

Jaffar Rafi, the petitioner, contended through his counsel that there was a strong apprehension that the police in Pakistan would kill Boxer in a fake encounter after bringing him back to the country with the help of Interpol.

He said a number of fabricated cases had been registered against his son-in-law only on the basis of political victimisation.

After hearing the initial contention, Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq issued notices to the FIA and the inspector general of police seeking their replies within a week.
