Young man commits suicide in Chitral
CHITRAL: A young man in Kaldam village of Drosh committed suicide here on Monday.
It was second incident of its kind in Chitral during the last two days. Police identified the deceased as Maqsood Ahmed. He committed suicide in a room of his house by shooting himself with a pistol.
On Sunday, Alam Khan of Raagh Rech village of Torkhow in upper Chitral had shot himself dead inside his house.
The immediate reasons of committing suicide in both the cases could not be known.
CEREMONY: A prize distribution ceremony was held in Osama Warraich Shaheed Academy here on Monday for the students of intermediate and matriculation.
Deputy Commissioner Irshad Sodhar gave away prizes to the students. He said that the academy was established by the former deputy commissioner Osama Ahmed Warraich, who perished in a plane crash last year.
ERC: The emergency response centre for women and children under the aegis of police has started functioning in Chitral to address the issues of domestic violence, bonded labour, marriage against will and harassment.
District Police Officer Mansoor Aman said that the centre was first of its kind in Chitral. He said that it would become a ray of hope for the women and children falling victims to any kind of cruelty, violence and maltreatment.
The DPO said that prompt action would be taken against the perpetrators when any complained was lodged with the centre.
