Water scarcity in Sindh

THE rural areas of Sindh are facing an acute water shortage. This state of affairs is having an adverse effect on agriculture, which is the mainstay of the people.

The small farmer in Sindh is facing ruin because of the acute water shortage and failure to obtain the official price for sugar cane.

Even the lower price offered by the mills was not paid in a timely manner and the small farmers were made to suffer.

The water scarcity has left growers unsure about sowing crops for the next season. Farmers who have sown seeds are disheartened by the authorities’ indifferent attitude. They complain that district governments and agriculture officers lend a deaf ear to their pleas.

The Sindh government should address the issues faced by small farmers.
