KP shine in bodybuilding, squash at Games
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa staged a clean sweep in men’s bodybuilding and women’s squash events, winning 10 gold and eight silver medals while Sindh shone in swimming on the second day of the Inter-provincial Games here at different venues on Monday.
On the second day Punjab, with 10 gold, 11 silver and five bronze were leading the medals table, followed by KP with 10 gold, 19 silver and seven bronze medals while Sindh were struggling at third with seven gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.
Sindh, however, will appear stronger in the medals table after the swimming event ends.
In the bodybuilding event played under the open sky at PSB Sports Arena, KP recorded 90 points after winning all nine weight categories. Punjab secured 45 points, winning five silver and two bronze medals. Balochistan grabbed one silver and three bronze medals with 22 points. Islamabad, with one silver and two bronze medals registered 17 points while Sindh, with two silver medals got 14 points and Fata got 10 points with two bronze medals.
In women’s squash Pakistan U-19 No. 1 Komal Khan claimed doubled gold medal as she defeated Punjab’s Aiman Shahbaz in the final 3-1.
In the individual category Noor-ul-Ain defeated Laiba Ijaz 10-12, 11-9, 12-10 and 11-9.
Komal along with Laiba and Nimra Aqeel won the team gold medal after defeating Punjab 2-1, thus recording double gold medals in the Games.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab went through to the volleyball finals.
KP defeated AJK in the first semi-final 25-15, 25-18 25-12 and in the second semi-final Punjab beat Fata 25-23, 25-18, 25-19. The final and the third-position match will be played on Tuesday.
In swimming, Sindh claimed all gold medals on the second day of the three-day event. Sindh won 10 gold medals, 8 silvers by recording 124 points. In the tug-of-war final Punjab defeated KP 2-0 before defeating AJK in the semi-final while KP outclassed Fata in the second semi-final before reaching the final.
KP defeated Punjab 3-0 in table tennis.
In wrestling, Punjab, with four gold and three silver medals, got the first position.
KP with two gold, three silver medals ended second followed by Islamabad, who won a gold, a silver and four bronze medals.
In hockey, KP reached the final after defeating Balochistan 5-1. Punjab will play Islamabad in the second semi-final.
Punjab beat KP while Sindh overcame Balochistan in the kabaddi semi-finals.
