Two miners killed in Swabi landslide
SWABI: Two mineworkers were killed and two others seriously injured when a landslide hit them at the mines located in the mountains of Saleem Khan Maneri area here.
Police and district administration officials said on Sunday that the four workers were buried under the debris when a mountainside slid. Locals and volunteers rushed to the site soon after the incident and initiated search and rescue operation for the buried workers.
Swabi Deputy Commissioner Khursheed Alam, local government representatives, politicians and police officials also reached the site.
The rescuers pulled out two bodies from the debris after hectic efforts. They were identified as Noor Mohammad of Saleem Khan village and Mohammad Tariq of Turlandi village. Later, the bodies were handed over to families.
They also rescued the other two workers from the debris. They were shifted to the Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Shahmansoor, from where they were referred to Peshawar in precarious condition. The injured workers were identified as Fawad Khan and Ibrahim Khan.
Meanwhile, a man was killed allegedly by three brothers over distribution of irrigation water in Yar Hussain village on Sunday, said police.
SHO Yar Husain Jawad Khan said a brother of the deceased registered an FIR against three brothers, Sher Afsar, Alamzeb and Hussain Khan, for the killing.
Later, the police raided the house of a relative of the accused and arrested them. The police also recovered four Kalashnikovs and two pistols from them.
