Verdict in child maid torture case reserved

ISLAMABAD: Justice Aamer Farooq of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday reserved verdict against additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his spouse in the Tayyaba torture case.

The judgment was reserved after the counsel for the state and the accused persons concluded their arguments.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar in January last year had taken suo motu notice of the case and remanded it to the IHC for conducting trial against the judge and his spouse.

On May 16, 2017, the IHC indicted the accused persons after rejecting a compromise deed between them and the parents of the victim.

The court had observed that the application for compounding the offence with parents of the minor was not maintainable as it was the state which performed its duties and took care of the minor since the registration of the criminal case.

The accused persons, however, pleaded ‘not guilty’.
