KARACHI: The Sindh High Court directed on Thursday the federal interior secretary to arrange a meeting of a ‘missing person’ with his parents after the court was informed that he was traced out at an internment centre.

Rasool Khan had moved a petition and submitted that the law enforcement agencies had arrested his son Qaisar Khan and three other relatives Zainullah, Noor Akbar and Inam Khan in Sohrab Goth in December 2012.

The petitioner further contended that his relatives were released in 2013, but the whereabouts of his son still remained unknown.

When a division bench of the SHC, hearing dozens of missing persons’ petitions, took up the cases on Thursday, a police officer through a report informed the court that during proceedings of the commission on enforced disappearances held on Feb 1, the Military Intelligence disclosed that Qaisar was available in “Inter IC”.

Subsequently, the petitioner requested the bench to direct the authorities concerned for a meeting with his detained son.

While disposing of the petition, the two-judge bench headed by Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar directed the interior secretary to arrange a meeting of the detainee with his parents and submit a compliance report.

Meanwhile, the same bench directed on Thursday a senior superintendent of police to personally look into another case of a missing person and file the progress report by May 24.

The mother of Mohammad Saeed Qureshi moved the SHC and said that her son was taken away along with his motorcycle from a Nazimabad locality in September 2011.

A police officer and a focal person of the home department placed a progress report and a report of provincial task force before the bench on Thursday.

The court directed the SSP (Central) Investigation-II, to personally look into the matter and come up with the progress report on May 24.

ACE asked to conclude inquiry

The bench also directed on Thursday the Anti-Corruption Establishment, Sindh, to conclude an inquiry against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Raheela Magsi in a month.

An official of the ACE informed the court that the senator had recorded her statement, adding that they needed around one month to conclude the inquiry and sought time.

While granting time, the SHC directed the ACE to complete the inquiry and submit report on May 31.

The ACE had initiated the inquiry against the PML-N senator for alleged embezzlement of funds when she was district nazim of Tando Allahyar in 2005-06.

Therefore, the ruling party senator through her lawyer moved the SHC for pre-arrest bail and contended that she was being subjected to political victimisation by the PPP.
