Lizard, small snake stick on discarded tape

The New South Wales Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service, Northern Rivers, said rescuers were dispatched on a report of a snake stuck to some ‘sticky tape’ and they were expecting ‘heavy duty plastic tape’ to be the culprit.

“Our rescuer was surprised to find that the tape was normal paper masking tape which had been crumpled up and discarded,” they said.

“Of even more surprise, the tape had caught not only a dwarf crown snake but also a little lizard, itself perhaps an intended meal for the snake,” the post said.

The group said rescuers carefully freed the lizard and the snake, which was described as mildly venomous but not usually dangerous to humans.

The group encouraged residents to be careful when disposing tape and similar adhesive items.

World’s cheesiest pizza

Vadoli, in Berlin, Germany, was officially recognised by Guinness World Records officials last month after topping its pizza with 111 different varieties.

The restaurant has taken the title from a small pizzeria in Portland, Oregon US, which was previously awarded after crafting its 101-cheese pizza.

Vadoli pizzaioli (pizza chefs) created their record-breaking Pizza Centoundici Formaggi using the likes of Roquefort, Reblochon, and Pecorino alongside classics such as mozzarella and Parmesan.

Dairy expert Martina Loeser, who assessed the cheeses, joined judge Lena Kuhlmann for the tasting.

“Every bite tastes different,” Lena said. “The crust and the base look crispy and none of it is burnt.”

The company’s general manager Nikolay Abroso said: “With this record we’re pushing the boundaries and bringing variety to the next level, showing what a pizza can really do.” Sadly, the pizza isn’t available on the menu.

Riders trapped upside-down on roller coaster in Texas

Riders on a Batman-themed roller coaster in Texas were trapped upside-down for about 45 minutes when the ride jerked to a sudden halt.

Witnesses recor­ded video when ‘Batman: The Ride’ at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio stopped suddenly at the top of one of its 12-story lifts, leaving riders stranded upside-down.

Park spokeswoman Sydne Purvis said one of the ride’s safety sensors, which are designed to stop the coaster for safety factors including hazardous weather conditions, was triggered. “Yes, one of the many sensors on the ride sent an alert,” Purvis told. The park did not disclose what caused the sensor to go off. The ride resumed after about 45 minutes and the riders were able to return to solid ground.

Sanitation workers recover $100,000 worth of jewelry

Waste disposal officials in a Georgia county said timing was key in the recovery of $100,000 worth of jewellery accidentally thrown in the trash by a local woman.

Hall County Solid Waste Director Johnnie Vickers said the county’s Candler Road Landfill received a call from a local woman who reported $100,000 worth of jewellery had accidentally been thrown away and carried off by garbage collectors.

Vickers said the team of five employees working to sift through the hauled trash had only one clue to go on — the precious items were in a black bag.

Vickers said they were able to examine logs and narrow the search down to about 9-10 tonnes of trash that had arrived within a 20-minute window. He said it took several hours of searching to find the right bag.

Vickers said the woman had called just in time to stop the bag from being dumped at the face of landfill, which would have made its recovery essentially impossible.
