PU gets first woman VC

LAHORE: The Punjab higher education department on Friday notified appointment of provisional vice chancellors for the Punjab University (PU) and Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).

The department issued a notification for the appointment of PU Institute of Administrative Sciences Dean Dr Nasira Jabeen as the varsity’s 57th vice chancellor (VC) on a provisional basis. She is stated to be the first woman VC in PU’s over 136 years history.

Another notification appointed LCWU Chairperson Dr Farkhanda Manzoor as the provisional VC of the varsity till appointment of a regular incumbent.

Earlier, the Punjab government had constituted a five-member search committee that interviewed five most senior professors of PU and three of LCWU for the respective posts on Friday morning.

Last week, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had suspended LCWU VC Prof Dr Uzma Qureshi while PU acting VC Dr Zakariya Zakar had resigned as a result of a suo motu notice taken by the CJP on appointments at public sector universities.
