HYDERABAD: Funds for health, education released

HYDERABAD, May 23: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that he is very much optimistic to achieve targeted results of the Sindh Devolved Social Service Programme in the district. He was giving details about implementation of the programme at a meeting with Kazi Kabir, provincial programme director of the SDSSP here on Saturday.

The DCO said an amount of Rs104.447 million was released to the district government by the provincial finance department to improve existing services of health, education and water and sanitation sectors.

He said in order to ensure transparent utilization of funds and smooth implementation of the project, a separate cell, local support unit, was established in the office of EDO finance and planning who was nominated as focal person under his supervision.

He said of released amount of Rs104.447 million, the district government had sanctioned sectoral allocation as per approved sector plan of the public sector under which 13 schemes of the health sector amounting to Rs43.594 million, 14 schemes of the education sector amounting to Rs50.206 million and seven schemes of various NGOs/private organizations amounting to Rs10.639 million were considered and approved in the district development committee meeting for funding purpose under the SDSSP for the year 2004-05.

He said tenders of all development schemes of the public sector were invited and opened while issuance of work order to competitive bidding organization was in progress.

He said an overall technical committee headed by the EDO works and services and two subcommittees headed by EDOs concerned of the development schemes had also been formulated to ensure transparent utilization of development funds.

EDO health Nazar Mohammad Junejo, EDO education Abdul Majeed Hur, EDO CDD Ibrahim Qureshi, all DDOs of social welfare and education departments and representatives of NGOs attended the meeting.
