Road accidents in Abbottabad claim 13 lives

At least 10 commuters lost their lives while six were injured when an Abbottabad-bound truck loaded with wheat bags overturned on a Mansehra-bound van in Abbottabad on Thursday.

The fatal accident took place at around 6:15pm in the evening, at the turn near Sabzi Mandi.

After hectic efforts by Rescue 1122 personnel, police, and locals, the bodies of the victims were recovered from the wreckage of the van after cutting the body of the vehicle, which was coming from Rawalpindi.

Some of the deceased have been identified as Shoukat, Sameen Bibi, Danish Muner Khan, Jamsheed, Muhammad Nazeer, Bedar Bakhat while the identities of the remaining victims had not been ascertained till the filing of this story.

From among the six injured, three were shifted to District Headquarter Hospital, Abbottabad while the rest were shifted to Ayub Teaching Hospital Complex.

The condition of three of the injured is stated to be critical as they received head injuries.

One child and one woman miraculously escaped the accident unhurt.

Accident on Abbottabad-Nathiagali road

Another fatal road accident took place on Abbottabad-Nathiagali Road near Ghea where three people died, including a husband and wife, when due to the negligence of the car's driver, the vehicle fell down in a hundred-feet-deep ditch.

According to eyewitness accounts, the driver parked the car on the roadside in order to check a fault which had developed. He exited the vehicle while the engine was still running, and while he examined the fault, the vehicle skid and fell down the ditch.

The negligence resulted in the deaths of Ghulam Murtaza, his wife Zakheera Bibi and Zubeeda Bibi, all three of whom died on the spot.

Later, the Rescue 1122 service with the help of locals, recovered the dead bodies which were subsequently shifted to their homes for burial.
