ISLAMABAD: A letter has been written to the heads of various institutions and departments, including IGP Islamabad, claiming that recent allegations of harassment in the police force were levelled to disgrace male police officers.

An anonymous letter titled ‘Justice for Eve’s Daughter’ was received by the Islamabad IGP Dr Sultan Azam Temuri months ago which alleged that women in the force were being harassed by their male colleagues.

A police officer said another letter has now been received, titled ‘Justice for Adam’s Son’, which references the earlier letter and claims that “it takes two to tango” and that women in the force encouraged men for favours.

The officer said the letter claims that the matter reached its point because of the response from women in the force.

The letter questioned the availability of separate rooms at Police Lines Headquarters in which the previous letter had alleged that women were harassed by their colleagues.

The letter also contained the names of nine women and nine men allegedly in relationships with each other and the sender said they had evidence – including video recordings and screenshots – of this claim.

No action has been taken or ordered over the new letter thus far, the officer said, but an inquiry ordered by the IGP into the earlier letter containing harassment allegations has been concluded.

The inquiry was conducted by Assistant Inspector General of Police Asmatullah Junejo, the officer said, but “nothing concrete” was found regarding the allegations levelled at male officials by unnamed female personnel.

Another officer said an assistant sub-inspector with a bad reputation was identified in the inquiry and was suspended with recommendations that departmental action be initiated against him.

Three police officials were identified and suspended in April during the preliminary inquiry into the first letter, the officer said, but nothing concrete has been found against them yet.

When contacted, IGP Temuri said there would also be an inquiry into the allegations in the new letter.
