Karak nazim removed as no trust motion succeeds
KARAK: Members of the Karak tehsil council on Tuesday removed nazim Haji Abdul Wahab from his office through a vote of no confidence.
The nazim, who declared the move illegal, was later detained by the police for interrupting voting.
The motion of no confidence was tabled by members of the PTI and JUI-F, which the nazim belongs to.
Deputy commissioner Zariful Muani had imposed Section 144 around the Town Hall to hold voting on the no confidence motion in a peaceful manner.
The nazim tried to stop two women councillors and a minority councillor from entering the premises and thus, causing heated exchanges between him and opposition members and police intervention.
The nazim even scuffled with the policemen, who later held him along with councillor Maulana Saiful Islam and detained them in Karak police station.
Later, the voting held on the motion of no confidence against the nazim.
Of the 15 councillors, 11 voted for the motion and one against it.
The police later released the ousted nazim at the intervention of JUI-F leaders and local elders led by Haji Abdul Wahab.
The ousted nazim told a news conference that his removal was illegal as the session was held in an illegal manner.
He claimed that three tehsil councilors had already resigned from their seats and that their resignations had been accepted by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
He said he would move the court of law against his removal.
