12 hospitalised as measles breaks out in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: More than 12 children were hospitalised after outbreak of measles in different areas of Charsadda district.

Like other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the measles turned endemic in Charsadda creating panic and fear among the parents. The social workers and political activists have expressed concerns over spread of the disease in the area and demanded of the authorities to take effective steps against it.

They also demanded of the government to provide medical facilities to the ailing children on war footings. They urged the health authorities to sent medical teams to the affected areas. They also said that awareness campaign should be launched in the area to create awareness among the parents about the deadly disease.

The local people said that more than 12 children were brought to the district headquarters hospital in critical condition.

It merits a mention here that health department will soon start mega anti-measles campaign across the province to cope with the epidemic.

The outbreak of measles has also been reported from other districts including Mardan, Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar, Lower Dir, Karak, Upper Dir, Nowshera, Swat and Mansehra.
