Man kills wife, her ‘friend’ on sixth day of marriage
SHIKARPUR: A woman was allegedly shot dead by her husband and brother on the sixth day of her marriage apparently under the custom of karo-kari (liable to be killed for maintaining an extramarital affair) in Yousuf Lolai village near Dakhan town of Garhi Yasin taluka on Monday. Her alleged friend, living in the same village, was also shot dead by the suspects, officials at the Bado police station said.
Nasreen Lolai, 25, was married off to Ghulam Sarwar Lolai on May 15, the police said, adding that her husband started feeling that she had been in love with a neighbour, Bashir Ahmed, 28. They said Ghulam Sarwar and the woman’s brother, Kamal Lolai, took it as matter of ‘honour’ and decided to kill both Nasreen and Bashir under the custom of karo-kari. On Monday, Ghulam Sarwar, along with Kamal, gunned down Nasreen and Bashir with his pistol.
The suspects fled from the village after committing the offence, the police said.
The bodies were taken to the Shikarpur Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination and then handed over to the heirs.
An FIR (No. 12/2018) was registered against the suspects at the Bado police station on behalf of the state and a hunt for them was started, SHO Ashique Shahani said.
