MMA office-bearers in Kohat, Lakki named

KOHAT/LAKKI MARWAT: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal nominated its office-bearers for the district cabinet in Kohat and Lakki Marwat on Tuesday.

In Kohat, only three parties of the five-party alliance were represented as there was no set up of Jamiat-i-Ulema Pakistan in Kohat. Similarly, Tehreek-i-Islami chief Maulana Khomenie and secretary general Amjid Karbali were asked to participate in the nomination meeting, but they abstained. The JUI-S had already distanced itself from MMA.

According to a statement issued here, Maulana Abdul Hayee of JU-F has been nominated as president, Abid Khan of Jamaat-i-Islami secretary general, Haji Abdus Salam of Jamiat Ahle Hadith and Haji Ijaz of JI vice-presidents, Mufti Ibrar Sultan deputy secretary general and Maulana Zainul Abideen of JUI-F as secretary information of MMA in Kohat district.

In Lakki Marwat, a meeting to elect office-bearers was held at the residence of tehsil councillor Azizullah Khan in Naurang town with MMA provincial deputy chief Dr Iqbal Khalil in the chair. Maulana Aziz Ahmad and local leaders of religious parties attended the meeting.

JUI-F leader Maulana Samiullah Mujahid was unanimously elected as president and JI’s Haji Azizullah as general secretary of MMA in Lakki Marwat. Other office-bearers include Qari Musa Khan of Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan and Mufti Irfanullah of JI as vice-presidents and Hafiz Amanullah of JUP and Maulana Ezazullah of JUI-F deputy general secretaries.

Speaking on the occasion, JUI-F district chief Maulana Abdul Rahim said that the revival of religious parties’ alliance had worried secular forces as they would face defeat in the coming general elections.

He claimed that the religious parties would enforce Islamic system in the country, if voted to power.
