Two killed in attack on army camp in held Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Two people, including a civilian, died in a shootout in India-held Kashmir, officials said on Monday.

The assaults were the first since the army suspended operations against Kashmiri activists for Ramazan.

A soldier was killed late on Sunday when armed men attacked an army camp in Kakapora, some 40km south of Srinagar, said army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia. A civilian driving past was also killed in the exchange, a police officer said.

Later, three soldiers were wounded when a roadside bomb was detonated underneath a military vehicle near Shopian district.

No group has claimed responsibility for the twin attacks.
