AMP’s Mehr Abdul Sattar released on bail

LAHORE: Anjuman Mazareen Punjab (AMP) Secretary General Mehr Abdul Sattar has reached his hometown, Okara, after being released from the Sahiwal high security prison on Friday.

Sattar was being tried in 36 cases filed against him from 2002 to 2016 for leading a movement of tenants for winning ownership rights of Okara military farms they were farming for a century. Twelve of these cases were under trial in the Anti-Terrorism Court and others in Lahore and Okara courts. He has been released after obtaining bail in all the cases. He remained incarcerated for over two years.

An AMP spokesperson said Mr Sattar will announce his future line of action after a few days.

Responding to a query, he said that Mr Sattar also planned to contest the upcoming general elections, which would also be announced after consultation within the movement and its allies.
