QWP warns against delay in general elections

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has cautioned that any attempt to delay the general elections will result in irreparable loss to the democratic system.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he said that assemblies had already completed their constitutional tenure and the Election Commission of Pakistan had also fixed July 25 for the general election, which had prompted the political parties to announce candidates’ names and launch election campaigns.

“We are democratic people and will always follow the constitution so that the elections could be held on the fixed date to avoid complications,” he said and added that those trying to get the elections delayed were escaping competition in polls.

Referring to the indecisiveness of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and opposition in selection of the caretaker chief minister in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said it was not a difficult job but the process needed good intentions.
