Ogata briefs Sattar on Afghan moot

ISLAMABAD Jan 8: Japanese prime minister’s representative for Afghanistan’s assistance, Sadako Ogata, on Tuesday briefed Foreign Minister Abdus Sattar about arrangements for the ministerial conference on economic rehabilitation of Afghanistan, being organised in on Jan21-22 in Tokyo to get pledges from the donor countries.

Ms Ogata, who will co-chair the conference, informed the minister that the donor countries would be expected to pledge assistance for Afghanistan.

The minister said Pakistan would take part in the conference.

He said Pakistan had committed to contribute $100 million, including a credit line of $50 million, to the rehabilitation programme.

He appreciated the leading role that Japan was playing in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
