Food authority seals 15 bakeries

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Wednesday launched a crackdown against bakers across the province to ensure provision of safe and fresh sweets to consumers before Eidul Fitr.

According to a statement, the owners of the sweets shops and bakeries were warned prior to a possible crackdown to follow the standards otherwise their outlets would be sealed and stock would be taken into custody and discarded.

The press release said that crackdown was launched across the province while the food authority staff would remain on duty during Eid holidays. “Necessary arrangements have been made to ensure provision of safe sweets across the province. Emergency numbers have also been shared through social and local media to address public complaints,” it added.

The release said that owners of bakeries should not compromise on food standards and quality. It said that all offices of the authority would remain functional across the province during Eid holidays.

It said that so far 15 bakeries had been sealed in parts of the province and the action would continue. It added that people should contact the food authority if they wanted to lodge any complaint regarding quality of food items across the province.
