Former MPA protests outside Bilawal House on not getting ticket

KARACHI: Former member of the Sindh Assembly and leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Amanullah Mehsud, along with dozens of his supporters staged a protest outside Bilawal House on Monday against “unfair” distribution of election ticket for PS-89 — a constituency in Malir district.

The demonstration, however, went unnoticed and the protestors had to return without any promise by party leaders.

Mr Mehsud had been elected MPA on the Awami National Party’s ticket in 2008 and joined the PPP in 2014.

Speaking at the protest, he said the PPP had picked the “wrong” candidate for PS-89 who was not known by the people of the area.

“I strengthened the organisational setup and revived PPP politics in my constituency, which had almost come to an end many years ago,” he said.

“Despite promises by the leaders, I was denied the provincial assembly ticket and it was awarded to a blue-eyed person who has no role in PPP politics,” he added.

In its list of candidates for the Sindh Assembly from Karachi announced last week, the PPP nominated M. Salim Baloch as its candidate for PS-89.
