Passer-by killed in attack on ANP worker

SWABI: A passer-by was killed in an attack on an Awami National Party activist following a clash between Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and ANP workers here on Friday.

The incident occurred at Tarakai village in the jurisdiction of Kalu Khan police station and hometown of Shahram Khan Tarakai, former provincial health minister, former MNA Usman Khan Tarakai and ex-MPA Mohammad Ali Tarakai.

It was learnt that ANP supporters tried to stop PTI activists from holding a meeting in a hujra of the village at night, which led to exchange of arguments among the workers of the two parties. However, the area elders prevented a clash.

However, ANP district president Ameer Rehman told Dawn that on Friday morning when a party worker, Nawab Ali, was sitting in a local shop he was allegedly manhandled by some PTI supporters namely Namar, Fazal Sher and Bihar. The PTI activists entered the shop and opened fire, as a result, a passerby identified as Sher Mohammad got killed on the spot, while Ali was injured.

The injured was taken to district headquarters hospital, Mardan, where his condition was stable.

Later injured Ali registered an FIR against the PTI workers and police started investigation. The Tarakai House spokesman Ramzan Chaudhry was repeatedly contacted but he did not reply the calls.
