Benazir’s niece ties the knot in London

KARACHI: Photographs and videos from the wedding ceremony of Azadeh Hussain, niece of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, went viral on social media on Friday.

According to a senior PPP leader, Sanam Bhutto’s daughter — who is an actress and blogger in the United Kingdom — tied the knot at a ceremony in London last week.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and his sisters Bakhtawar and Aseefa also attended the event. The siblings were in London for Eid.

Sanam is the youngest of Benazir’s siblings — and the only surviving child of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his wife Nusrat. Besides Azadeh, she also has a son, Shahmir.

Biopic controversy: Meanwhile, social media was also alight with rumours of actress Mehwish Hayat playing the lead role in a biopic based on the life of Benazir Bhutto.

In a recent Instagram post, the actress hinted that she was gearing up for the role of a lifetime — with a carefully selected quote from the late prime minister’s book in the caption, she said: “I am privileged to have been given the opportunity to research and learn more about her life and sitting here I can only reflect on so much more that could have been had she not lost her life so tragically. The sign of a true leader is the legacy they leave behind and the reverence with which the people remember her irrespective of party allegiances. She was a truly remarkable woman and I look forward to giving life to her story soon.”

The late prime minister’s children, however, claimed that they were unaware about the film and would take action as their consent had not been sought in the regard. Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari tweeted from her official account (BakhtawarBZ) and said: “Certainly no consent from her living heirs/children was sought. Absolutely unacceptable and we will be taking action against it.”
