ABBOTTABAD: Newly-appointed Abbottabad District Police Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat has directed all the DSPs and SHOs to launch crackdown on drug peddlers and beef up security for the citizens, especially the poll candidates.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting at his office on Saturday.

Mr Marwat ordered officials to make special rounds and snap checking at the sensitive points of the district and ensure that security cameras installed there were working properly.

He also directed to establish a main control room for the forthcoming elections.

He asked the policemen to be friendly with the complainants and to redress the grievances of the general public on a priority basis.

He showed satisfaction on the performance of the dispute resolution committees and said that police would be making every effort for speedy and early delivery of justice to the people.

APPOINTMENT OF DEAN CHALLENGED: The Peshawar High Court’s Abbottabad circuit bench has fixed July 2 for hearing a writ petition challenging the appointment of dean of Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad.

The appointment of AMC’s new dean, Dr Salma Aslam Kundi, was challenged by Dr Mehraj and others in the PHC’s circuit bench two days ago.

The court has issued notices to all parties concerned as per the writ petition.

The petitioners have prayed the court that all appointments and transfers made after the orders of the Election Commission of Pakistan on and after May 31, 2018, be declared illegal and void.

The petitioners prayed the court that the appointment of AMC’s dean was clear violation of the orders of the apex court. They further said that postings and transfers and new appointments in lower cadre also be declared illegal.

Former dean Dr Aziz-un-Nisa had tendered her resignation from the post which was accepted by the BoG.
