ECP grills PTI candidate for using army chief, CJP photos
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday quizzed an electoral candidate for using the pictures of the chief justice of Pakistan and the army chief in his campaign advertisements.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Nasir Cheema was asked by the ECP chief to submit a reply explaining as to why he should not be disallowed to contest the polls.
“Are they related to you? What is the army chief’s and CJP’s link to the elections? On what basis did you put up their pictures?” an infuriated Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan asked during the hearing of an appeal against the PTI candidate.
Mr Cheema’s reply that those posters had been put up before the announcement of the election schedule could not satisfy the CEC.
He made it clear that it was not the question of when these had been put on display, and asked Mr Cheema to understand the question as to why these images had been put up at all. The hearing was adjourned till July 9.
