Call to bifurcate Ghotki district
SUKKUR, June 1: Elected representatives of Ghotki district have demanded that the government bifurcate the district and make Mirpur Mathelo a new one, as was done in Hyderabad, Larkana and Jacobabad. Nazims of Daharki and Ubauro, Mian Shafiq Ahmed and Jam Shafan Khan Dahar, nazims of various union councils as well as a former MPA, Sardar Ahmed Yar Shar, demanded this at a press conference in Daharki on Wednesday. They alleged that the nazim of Ghotki was ignoring their areas which was creating a sense of deprivation among the people of the area.
They said this situation had left them with no option but to join forces against the Zila Nazim, Sardar Ali Gohar Mahar, and demand bifurcation of the district.
They said that President Musharraf’s devolution of power system had resolved problems of the people, but the nazim of Ghotki had been ignoring the tehsils of the district. They said that bifurcation of different districts had benefited people.
They alleged that whenever the Mahar Sardars came to power, they ignored these tehsils, which created hatred among the people. Meanwhile, talking to newsmen in Ghotki, Zila Nazim Sardar Ali Gohar Mahar vowed that he would never allow bifurcation of the district.
He said that the Lund group wanted to derive political mileage from bifurcation of the district.
Sardar Mahar further said that during a meeting with President General Pervez Musharraf in Karachi, he had strongly opposed the idea of bifurcating the district, while Khalid Khan Lund and Nadir Akmal Leghari had supported it.
