SC disqualifies PPP leader from Badin

BADIN: The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision of disqualifying Bibi Yasmin Shah, former senator and a PPP leader from Badin, from contesting the election on the ground that her matriculation certificate was fake.

Ms Shah was disqualified by the ECP a few months ago but she obtained a stay order from the Sindh High Court (SHC).

The SHC decision was challenged by National Assembly former speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza in the apex court.

During the hearing of the petition filed by Dr Mirza in Islamabad, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar pointed out that the PPP leader’s matriculation certificate bore wrong name of her father. “We cannot allow such people to contest the elections,” he observed.
