Govt servants asked to stay neutral in polls

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa interim Chief Minister retired Justice Dost Mohammad Khan has directed the government officials to stay neutral during the election campaign, or face stern action.

On Wednesday, KP establishment department issued the chief minister’s directives to the administrative secretaries, commissioners, deputy commissioners and heads of attached departments, saying that the chief minister’s secretariat was receiving reports about involvement of certain officers at the district level to influence the election results by favouring candidates of different political parties.

The department directed these officers to remain impartial and keep a strict watch on their subordinate officials. It warned that any officer/official involved in political activity will be proceeded against under the Election Act/Rules, 2017.
