Haripur nazim survives no-trust motion
HARIPUR: District nazim Adil Islam has survived the no-confidence motion after reaching an understanding with the opponents.
Under the agreement, the nazim withdrew a petition against the no-confidence motion from the Abbottabad bench of the Peshawar High Court and said he would tender resignation after the July 25 general elections.
Thirty-one members of the 69-strong district council had filed a no-confidence motion against the nazim on June 28 prompting the secretary of the house to fix voting on it for July 3.
However, the nazim blocked voting by securing a stay order from the PHC’s Abbottabad bench until July 9.
Makes agreement with opponents to quit after elections
The court had asked the relevant officials and councillors opposed to the nazim to appear before it to defend the legality of the no-confidence motion.
In the meanwhile, the nazim’s uncle, Abdul Rehman aka Jahazonwala, contacted councillors and requested them not to pursue the motion until the July 25 elections.
The councillors said they would accept the request if the nazim promised to step down soon after elections.
Abdul Rehman Jahazonwala accepted the condition on behalf of the nazim during a jirga on Sunday.
On Monday, the nazim withdrew his petition against the no-confidence motion from the PHC’s Abbottabad bench.
Since independent candidate and nazim’s cousin Faisal Zaman is contesting election, Adil Islam is busy canvassing for him.
PTI divisional president Zargul Khan has already removed Adil Islam as the district president of the party’s Youth Wing for running the campaign of independent candidate Faisal Zaman against party nominee Saima Khalid.
NOTICES ISSUED: Haripur deputy commissioner and district monitoring officer for general elections on Monday issued notices to 10 candidates of the district’s two national and eight provincial assembly seats, including a woman, over the violation of the election law.

He warned that he would initiate legal action against the candidates in line with the guidelines of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
