KHAIRPUR: Protest against water shortage

KHAIRPUR, June 3: Residents of 10 villages took out a procession in Kolab Jeal on Friday against water shortage in Laloon and Kolab Jeal channels. The protesters, hailing form Shaikh Tayyab, Mari Azmat, Kandhro, Jam Jatoi, Kolab Jeal, Babar Kandhro and other villages, said the shortage of water was affecting their crops.

They said they had been complaining to irrigation officials about water shortage but to no avail.

BOOKED: Police have booked 29 growers of Faiz Ganj and Thari Mirwah for stealing water.

The SDO, Faiz Ganj irrigation sub-division, Ghulam Nabi Babbar, lodged a case with the Faiz Ganj police against 22 growers on Thursday night for stealing water from the Ali Nawaz Canal, RD-20 to 130, and the Weho Canal, RD-10 to 20.

The nominated growers included Ranjho, Aijaz Khaskheli, Rasheed, Allah Bux Abro, Ghulam Mehdi Ratar, Mukhtiar Hussain Ratar, Nizamuddin Ratar, Iqbal, Noor Mohammad Mashori, Ghulamullah Chang, Mohammad Yousuf Shar, Zahid Shar, Mohammad Ayub Chang, Mohammad Hayat, Pato Rajpar, Ghulam Qadir Shar, Mohammad Suleman Khoso, Alam Khan Bambhan, Kamdar Ali Channa, Mumtaz Channa, Naban Magsi and Nazar Hussain Ratar.

A grower, Ali Nawaz, lodged a case with the Mirwah police on Friday against seven growers.

KILLED: Sixteen-year-old Azhar Hussain, a resident of the Jhango village, Kotdiji taluka, was killed after he was hit by a car on the National Highway near the Momin Mahar police picket.
