Ajoka begins workshop for aspiring actors

LAHORE: A five-day acting workshop by Ajoka Theatre started at their Cavalry Ground office on Wednesday. It is being conducted by Nirvaan Nadeem.

The ‘Acting MasterClass’ is aimed at teaching the art to aspiring and amateur actors for television, film and theatre. The workshop began on Wednesday and will continue till July 22. Students from various educational institutions, drama societies and other aspiring actors from Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi and Faisalabad are participating in the workshop.

Theatre actor and director Nirvaan Nadeem is leading the workshop, which includes sessions on acting techniques, including theatre games, vocal training, musical exercises, improvisations, dance and movement exercises.

Nirvaan said that the basic idea of the workshop was to give an insight into the fascinating art of acting and equip aspiring actors with the necessary skills. He added that the workshop will be a practice-based class to help fresh talent begin or progress in their journeys as actors in the entertainment and visual arts industry. He said gauging from the feedback it was decided that another workshop would be held later.

Besides Ajoka’s regular training team, actress, writer and activist Feryal Gauhar and renowned actor Savera Nadeem will also conduct sessions and share their and experiences.

Ajoka Executive Director Shahid Nadeem said that participants of the workshop will also get a chance to act in upcoming productions of the theatre group. He said Nirvaan had devised a unique workshop programme for actors, which was both theoretical and practical.
