GUJRANWALA: The municipal corporation teams under the supervision of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday demolished various buildings constructed on 247-kanal state land.
Reports said the municipal corporation acquired 247-kanal land for the construction of a zoo. Some influential people allegedly sold more than 100 kanal land to factory owners and others who constructed buildings.
Two people submitted applications to NAB. A team of the bureau visited the site and found illegal construction. On the instructions of NAB, Mayor Sheikh Sarwat Ikram planned action and formed three teams comprising 20 people to demolish the structures.
The operation was started on Saturday morning. A heavy contingent of police was deployed on the site. More than 50 per cent of land has been retrieved. Some people sought time to remove their valuables.
The operation would continue in coming days.
MURDER CASE RESOLVED: Sabzi Mandi police claimed on on Saturday to have resolved a triple murder case here on Saturday and arrested four suspects.
Speaking at a press conference, City Police Officer Dr Moeen Masood said on July 11, 2018, unidentified motorcyclists killed three members of a family namely Lala Nawaz Bhinder, his wife Sakina and son Gohar Nawaz when they riding a rickshaw were on their way to sessions court.
Rickshaw driver Nadeem was injured in the firing. He said police had registered a case under sections 302, 324, 148 and 149 of PPC.
He said a team arrested suspects Shahid, Dawood, Tariq and Idrees.
SUICIDE: A girl committed suicide over a trifle here on Saturday.
Reports said 16-year-old Kanwal, a resident of Mandyala Tega, had a quarrel with her elder sister Krishma over usage of smart phone. On Saturday, Krishma refused to give her phone over which she consumed poison.
She was shifted to DHQ Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Further investigation is under way.
