HYDERABAD, June 8: Activists of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party held demonstrations and observed token hunger strikes in many districts of the interior of Sindh on Wednesday. They were protesting against alleged anti-Sindh polices of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the government, issuance of NICs to illegal immigrants and other people who had settled in Sindh up to 1986, demolition of old villages in Karachi, division of the Hyderabad district, proposed opening of the Khokhrapar route, allotment of land to outsiders, construction of the greater Thal canal and the Kalabagh dam and the registration of what they called false cases against veteran human rights activist Jam Saqi and the arrest of his wife.

In Hyderabad, party activists held a demonstration and staged a sit-in outside the press club.

Speaking on the occasion, STPP chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said his party would launch a struggle for rights of Sindh and Sindhis.

He alleged that the MQM and its allies were trying to expel Sindhis from their motherland and wanted to take over control of resources of the province, as well as its sovereignty.

Dr Magsi said issuance of NICs to illegal immigrants, opening of the Khokhrapar route, allotment of lands to aliens and division of districts were the chains of the conspiracy hatched by the Muttahida.

He accused the rulers and what he called unconscionable feudal lords and landlords of supporting the MQM.

He called upon Sindhis to unite on one platform for protecting the province and its resources.

The STPP chief also condemned excesses being committed against Jam Saqi and his family members.

He announced that the STPP would stage a protest sit-in outside the press club on June 15.

Meanwhile, members of the Joint Action Committee of various NGOs continued their token hunger strike outside the press club for the third consecutive day here on Wednesday against the registration of cases against Jam Saqi and the arrest of his wife.

Sindh Hari Committed activists also staged a protest sit-in at the Hyderabad Chowk and demanded that the cases against Mr Saqi should be withdrawn and his wife be released forthwith.

MIRPURKHAS: About two dozen activists of the STPP observed a token hunger strike at the Post Office Chowk here.

The protesters included district STPP vice-president Zubair Jadgal, general secretary Lala Lajpat Rai, press secretary Juman Sindhi and others.

KHAIRPUR: STPP activists observed a hunger strike for six hours on the Court Road here.

They were led by district party president Riaz Hussain Sehto.

NAWABSHAH: Activists of the STPP and the Sindhi Hari Sangat observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here.

They were led by Sarang Unnar and Qamar Buriro.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Activists of the STPP observed a hunger strike for three hours outside the press club here.

DADU: A large number of activists of the STPP held a demonstration and observed a token hunger strike.

MITHI: Workers of the STPP observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here.

JACOBABAD: STPP activists took out a procession from the party’s office here.

The procession after passing through various roads reached at the DCO Chowk where the protesters staged a sit-in.
