Free-will couple’s house ransacked

SUKKUR: The family members and relatives of a woman who had contracted a free-will marriage stormed her house, ransacked domestic articles and took away valuables to ‘punish’ the couple, officials at the Adilpur police station said on Friday.

Quoting the aggrieved side, the police said that Salma Kori had contracted a free-will marriage with Gulsher Kori a couple of weeks back without the consent of the woman’s family and relatives.

On Friday, 10 furious persons stormed the couple’s house in Gul Mahar village and ruthlessly beat up all those present inside. The intruders ransacked furniture and other household items and took away many valuables to punish the couple.

Gulsher and his relatives held a protest demonstration outside Khanpur Mahar press club and demanded arrest of the attackers and restoration of the looted goods.

They claimed that the attackers also herded away their four cows and two goats. They alleged that a six-year-old boy, Qadeer Kori, was injured during the attack and had to be taken to the Sukkur Civil Hospital for treatment.
